Free Choice

Are we free to choose? Yes and no. Yes, we may always choose between alternatives, but no, we can’t choose something that we don’t really want. We always choose what we desire most. So, to force someone’s hand, the object need only reveal itself as most desirable, and the chooser will freely choose it.

We are free in that we may choose alternatives, but we can be compelled by something that is irresistibly desirable.
