Art Educator's Purpose Statement

Education is essential to personal wellbeing and building up neighborhoods and communities. Students will impact society in some way. Every one of them has an opportunity to make it positive. Learning is the power they’ll wield, if they take possession of it—if teachers arm them with it.

Art is powerful in this way. It teaches students about themselves and the world. It enriches their lives, but it also effects change for others. Ours is a creative society. The likes of Microsoft's Bill Gates, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, and Tesla's Elon Musk lead the way. It is for Art Education to inspire those next in line.

If education is meant to meet students' needs, then Art Education is the meeting of their perceptual-emotional needs. It uses the disciplines of our many great traditions to encourage students toward healthy expression and making good choices. Healthy, choosy students are our future.

Art Educators teach students to see the beauty in things in order to know, to feel its meaning so that they may act responsibly.
